National Farm Safety and Health Week 2021, hosted by the National Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS), takes place from September 19th-25th with the theme “Farm Safety Yields Real Results.”

Each day of the week features in-depth webinars on topics such as preventing pediatric farm-related injuries. Topics from augers to chemical exposure will be discussed in the presentation, as will off-road vehicles, which are one of the most common causes of serious injuries and deaths for young people on farms and ranches. Learn about safety concerns and prevention strategies. Best of all, you’ll walk away from the webinar with knowledge about how to prevent and handle common farm-related injuries.
Farm Injury Statistics
In 2019, there were 3,980 sprains/strains/tears under nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses that required time away from work in agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting in private industry, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses. Soreness, pain, and fractures were also common reasons for missing work due to injury.
The most common injuries were to the hand and back, most frequently caused by being struck by an object or equipment or a fall on the same level.
There was a total of 577 fatal occupational injuries in the category in 2019. The most common causes of death were transportation incidents (265) and contact with objects and equipment (167).
