Indiana’s oldest festival is back! Visit the Versailles Pumpkin Show on the Ripley County Courthouse Square from September 21-25, 2022.
This popular event began in 1899 as an advertising initiative for Alfred H. Beer’s jewelry business. He hosted pumpkin contests each year. In 1907, other area merchants joined his effort to stage the annual event.
Versailles Pumpkin Show Events
The Versailles Pumpkin Show continues to draw a crowd with numerous events and activities for all ages. Enjoy rides, live entertainment, music, and fair food nightly from 5-10 p.m. There are also craft exhibits, contests, and other events throughout the week.
The Young Confederates will perform and area high school representatives will compete in the King and Queen Contest. The pie eating contest, Prince and Princess Contest, and art show are other popular events, but of course the main event is the Pumpkin Show Parade on Saturday morning. The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. and is followed by the giant pumpkin weighing and awards, the Gold Star Chili Dog Eating Contest, and live music.
