Some Hoosiers are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. In this article, we’ll discuss who is currently eligible, how to make an appointment, and what you should know about receiving the vaccine.
Eligibility & Registration
The COVID-19 is currently available for:
- Adults age 65 and older
- Healthcare workers
- People who have exposure to COVID-19 infectious material, such as individuals who perform COVID-19 testing
Other groups will be eligible to receive the vaccine in the coming weeks. Vaccine supply is limited, so please be patient.
If you are currently eligible to receive the vaccine, you can make an appointment online. If you have any trouble registering online or know someone who is eligible to get the vaccine who doesn’t have computer access, dial “211” from any phone to register. If you are a Margaret Mary Health patient, you can also contact your primary care provider’s office for assistance.
There are three vaccination sites in Ripley County:
- Margaret Mary Health Batesville Fire Department
- Margaret Mary Health Tyson Activity Center (Versailles)
- Ripley County Health Department (Osgood)
Note that you must have an appointment to receive the vaccine. No walk ins.
Getting the Vaccine
You’ll need to bring a valid ID to your vaccine appointment. Wear a mask and a top that allows easy access to the top part of your arm for the injection. If you’re ill or have had a severe allergic reaction in the past, let the vaccine provider know. So far, there have been few complications related to receiving the vaccine, but you will need to remain on-site for 15 minutes to be monitored in case you have an adverse reaction.
You’ll receive a card or printout that tells you which vaccine you received as well as the date and location. You will need two shots for the vaccine to work as effectively as possible. Be aware that it does take time for your body to build protection after receiving any vaccination. You’ll still need to follow COVID-19 safety protocols, including social distancing, frequent hand washing, wearing a mask when social distancing isn’t possible, and staying home if you feel sick.
