The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) offers a variety of free resources to help you stay safe on the road. Let’s take a look at the recently redesigned SaferCar app and the 5-Star Safety Ratings Program to see how they work!
SaferCar Mobile App
The SaferCar app allows you to save your vehicles, car seats, equipment, and tires in a virtual “garage” on your smartphone. The app then automatically checks for recalls in the background. You’ll receive an alert when there is a recall for any item in your virtual garage.
Your information is stored only on your device, so no personal information is shared. This creates a safe and private user experience. This free app is available for both iOS and Android. You can learn more about the SaferCar app here.
5-Star Safety Ratings Program
Learn about crash protection and rollover safety of new vehicles with the 5-Star Safety Ratings Program. One star is the lowest rating and five stars is the highest; five stars are the safer cars.
This program evaluates how vehicles perform in frontal, side, and rollover crash tests because these account for the majority of crashes in the US. You can learn more about each crash test scenario on the NHTSA site.
